Two things the PCPC is asking:
1.
The PCPC is asking area pastors to pass out the Pray for 10 Commitment cards to congregants,
and in that same moment, ask them to write down the names of 10 neighbors and to sign the card to commit to praying for
neighbors BY NAME every day for six weeks sometime within
the window between Sunday, September 12th 2009
through Sunday, November 20th, 2010. Cards should be collected in the same moment.
2. The PCPC is asking that churches incorporate a 3 -
5 minute period during their weekly service to lead congregants in the exercise of praying for those for whom they have committed
to pray.
These commitment cards and the information put on them will
be controlled by the church, not the PCPC. There is no listing of any organization on the cards. The PCPC
will simply be in communication with designated church contacts to get a pulse of what is happening and pass good reports
along for the morale of the greater Christian community.
Short-term results:
Congregants may initially come up against the hardness of heart, merely parroting prayers, but with some perseverance,
maybe a little struggle and with a lot of help from the Holy Spirit, believers will begin to pray out of the love the Lord
for their neighbors. Love Himself will invade hearts, from those praying to those being prayed for. In quite a few situations,
noticable changes will begin to take place, from changed attitudes toward church and the Gospel to deep transformations of
heart. Many will come to the Lord and desire to find a church home. Christians will be excited about being Christians.
Long-term results:
Participating churches will
grow and the Christian community will grow overall.
This commitment gives a practical vision to church
members in their spheres of influence. Their excitement levels will grow as they witness the Holy Spirit invading hearts as
they pray in their homes and under their breathes in the workplace.
Church morale will grow even more
from whatever level is currently resides.
Christians' hearts become more caring for their neighbors
and find practical ways to care for people.
Why do this?:
Nobody has ever come into a relationship with the Lord without prayer. The mind of the unbeliever is opened
to the Gospel and the heart of the unbeliever opened to the voice of Love Himself. The Lord rides the prayers He inspires
within us into the lives of other people. Jesus died so we would pray others into knowing Him. He deserves this of us. As
people come to know the Lord more deeply, both the church and church morale grow exponentially. "My house shall
be a house of prayer" - Jesus
What this effort is not
doing:
...is not building an organization, though it will benefit many congregations
around the Park Circle area.
...does not lift up a personality - other than the Lord's.
...is
not raising money.
"Leaders lead. We're prayer leaders before preachers.
The difference between leadership and manipulation is motive. Motive is continually purified and refined in the presence of
God, which by definition, is prayer. Therefore, let the prayer leaders lead."
